Welcome to my travel blog! I'll share adventures I've had, some I'd love to have, and some I'm writing about in my first murder mystery, The Body at Battle Mountain. The idea for the book sprang from a trip with my sister, towing her 30-foot travel trailer across several states. Luckily, we didn't find any dead bodies! My most recent adventure was a month-long USA road trip with my husband, so let's start with the joys and frustrations of the road.

Boston in the Rain

Day 21:  Our stop in Boston would be only one afternoon, so I booked a bus tour. Lucky thing, too--it rained most of the time we were there. But we took in the flavor of of the area from our tour driver, a crusty Bostonian who had numerous stories that he told with great flair in the distinctive local accent.

The Bunker Hill Bridge is the world's widest cable-stayed bridge. It's fun to spot it in the "Rizzoli and Isles" TV series, now that we've seen it!

A side view from Boston Harbor where the USS Constitution, better known as "Old Ironsides," is docked.

This was the only place we got off the bus. The close up look of the famous ship was worth it.

We even got to go below deck. Notice the cannon in the background.

More historic sights included the Old State House (left, snapped up close as we drove by)...

And The Old South Meeting House (right, through raindrops), where voice was given to colonists' displeasure with Great Britain, leading to the Revolutionary War.

Faneuil Hall, a market and meeting place since 1742, is now the seat of modern government in Boston.

Modern Boston, with it's skyscrapers, financial district, Fenway Park and city gardens is wonderful as well.

It would be nice to visit Boston in the sunshine some day, but overcast skies and mist-shrouded skyscrapers provided a a subdued ambiance and nostalgia that would have been missing on a bustling sunny day.

After our whirlwind tour of Boston, we hit the road once again, heading into Connecticut for the night. Next week, we skip right by New York City, but stop to explore more history in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
